Incorporated in August 2012 and headquartered in Brisbane, Queensland, Shandong Energy Australia Pty Ltd (SEA) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Shandong Energy Group. The Shandong Energy Group is one of the world's leading coal miners employing 230,000 personnel worldwide and producing 120 million tonnes of coal per annum.
Through subsidiaries, SEA possesses three coal projects in Central Queensland's Bowen Basin: the Hillalong Project (MDL 324), the Richfield Project (EPC 930) and the Rocklands Project (EPC 890).

The Hillalong project area (MDL 324) is located approximately 170 km west of Mackay. The tenement is 100% owned by Queensland Coal Exploration Pty Ltd (QCE), a wholly owned subsidiary of Shandong Energy Australia. A total of 256 boreholes have been drilled on the tenement since 1975. The Hillalong project is currently conducting an Environment Impact Statement (EIS) and Feasibility Studies.

The Richfield project area (EPC 930) is located 25 km northeast of Middlemount. The tenement is held by a joint venture between Rocklands Richfield Pty Ltd (60%), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Shandong Energy Australia, and Bowen Coal Pty Ltd (40%). A total of 59 boreholes have been drilled on the tenement since 2014. The project is currently in the exploration stage.

The Rocklands project area (EPC 890) is located 30km south of Blackwater. The tenement is held by HLM Coal Pty Ltd, an 80% owned subsidiary of Shandong Energy Australia. A total of 173 boreholes have been drilled on this tenement since 1966. The project is currently in exploration stage.
